What can be expected in our time together?
This work is hard. I believe it is magical, and it is also difficult, vulnerable, tender, painful … it is incredibly powerful to invest in understanding the intricate being that is you. My hope is to support you in creating a deeper awareness of yourself in order to nurture the relationship within you, and with those around you. This work requires energy both in and out of our time together.
During our sessions, I might utilize talk therapy, somatic techniques, art therapy, writing techniques (among others) that support healing and deepen our understanding of your experiences.
Some of our time together will consist of working to explore your experiences throughout childhood and adolescence in order to frame how that existence influences your life today. What parts of you as a child show up in your life today? How have your childhood and adolescent experiences influenced the way you interact with the world? How you interact within relationships? How you interact with yourself?
In our work together, there will be a focus on emotion. I believe it is vital to the healing process to put language to feelings, and identify how those feelings manifest themselves in our body. This helps to soothe disconnection and create a connection from what we feel in the brain to what we feel in the body. In creating a deeper connection with mind and body, we can work to heal.
I believe therapy to be a collaborative process, and that you are the expert of your own life. With that, I want to be talking about what you want to be talking about. If we’re heading in a direction and you’re wondering huh this wasn’t what I was hoping for today, tell me! I welcome feedback. If you’re ever wondering where we’re going, or what I’m doing - please ask. The therapeutic process should not be a secret, and I’m happy to share information with you along the way.
